Create Pond Plant Combos
Pond plants add beauty, shade and fish cover for your pond. Jazz up your pond shelves & marginal areas with fun to make custom created plant combos for pond margins or “shelves”.
What you need are plants that like water (your choice- see pond & bog plant bloom times blog), pea gravel (or other medium of your choice), planting baskets and fertilizer tablets (optional- if you do not have fish).
I selected a variety of plants- those you can get a a nursery, a start from a neighbor or purchase here at Nature Perfect- that will do well in mixed containers, are evergreen or colorful. Rushes, Sweet Flag, Iris, Chameleon plant and Creeping Jenny are tough, hardy and readily available.
If you use plants that are planted in potting soil vs clay or aquatic media, you will have to “bare root” them or take them out of the soil and then replant them into gravel or lava rock. Don’t worry, it’s not too hard!
Remove Plant from it’s pot, then carefully remove soil from the roots Rise roots with water, make sure there is as little soil as possible Fill a mesh pot (or other container with holes) half way with pea gravel (or lava rock) Place your plants on top of the gravel. arrange as needed,
add more gravel to anchor and support the roots.Sweet Flag Ogon and Chameleon Plant Siberian Iris, Lemon Swirl Curly Rush, Sweet Flag Ogon
